Solidarity Arts Fellowship Reflection
“SAF has taught me that we are truly stronger together, and that when we can learn from each other, we can hold each other up. I’ve learned that practicing solidarity is a community effort, and that vulnerability and tenderness are essential to connection and growth. I’ve learned to understand what I need to work on, and how to sit in my discomfort. Connecting with each other while physically distant has been difficult, but I’m so thankful to have had the SAF and VL community to help guide me as we live through this global moment together.”
Object of resilience
“The background of my portrait is my jichan's (grandpa's) garden, which I started taking care of when he passed away. It reminds me of the Japanese American community's roots in agricultural work, but most importantly it reminds me of my jichan, and has brought me a lot of joy and comfort during quarantine!”
